In this article, I will be sharing when and how to help your baby to stand up on his own.

When do your baby start standing up?

1 month old

Your baby lift his wobbly head.

2 to 3 months old

Your baby continues lift his head during tummy time.

Your baby can bear some weight on his legs while you held him.

4 to 5 months old

Your baby’s arms got stronger and more coordinated as he reached for toys, and he was likely able to push down on his legs when his feet were on a hard surface such as the floor.

6 to 8 months old

Your baby bounces up and down a bit and could support his weight on his legs as you held him and work out with him. He has the strength he needs to pull himself up to a standing position.

Bring your baby's crib mattress down to its lowest height, since if he can pull himself up on his crib rail, he is probably just a short step away from being able to pull himself over it.

When your baby manages pull up to stand, he don’t know how to get down.

You will have to show him how to get down and he will follow.

9 to 11 months old

Your baby will start pulling himself up on anything he can grip, from the couch to your legs.

12 to 17 months old

Your baby stands alone for a second or two and needs support.

18 months old

Your baby stands alone without support for a longer duration.

How to help your baby stand on his own?

Give your baby plenty of floor time and try below.

Make it a game.

Place some of your baby’s toys on the couch.

Position your baby so he can grab hold of the cushions and pull himself up to stand and retrieve his toys.

This will reward your baby's curiosity while allowing him to practice pulling up, reaching and grasping all at once.

Buy standing toys.

For example, learning tables are the perfect plaything for your almost standing baby.

This type of toy is sturdy enough to bear your baby’s weight as he pulls up. and keep him standing there or get him moving around the table to try out each play station.

Create a safe path.

Childproof your home by putting up barriers to sharp corners or ledges, and securely fasten bookshelves and cabinets to the walls so he can’t tip them over.

Watch your baby’s feet.

Keep your baby barefoot or in socks or slippers so his feet won’t trip him up.

Give your baby a helping hand.

Let your baby hold onto your fingers to help him balance as he stands on his own.

Hold your baby in your lap.

If your baby needs a safe place to land, let him pull up on the sofa or his learning table as you hold him in your lap.

This may help your baby feel secure enough to try it on his own after a few days.

Your baby might walk in one or two months after standing.

Provide lots of safe, fun opportunities to practice during playtime.
